THE AUSTRALIAN Profibus Competence Centre claims the only way to maintain a high standard of wastewater treatment while also reducing costs is to make use of sophisticated measurement and process control technology.
The company says cost reduction is a key factor in driving investment into wastewater treatment all over the world at the moment. Fieldbus devices, in particular Profibus, can cut costs with out affecting quality.
According to the group, the introduction of Fieldbus communication technologies has boosted the monitoring of instrument status, maintenance and diagnostics in a number of industries. Subsequently, Profibus in now a $60b market, which dominates many sectors of industrial automation.
The company says one of Australia’s largest municipal wastewater reuse projects, the Kwinana Water Reclamation Plant (KWRP) near Perth, is also one of the most comprehensive applications of Profibus technology in the country.
The $28m Water Corporation-owned plant has implemented the Profibus DP and PA communications systems to improve the water efficiency of the Perth Basin and the environmental management in the Kwinana industrial area.
The water project company has been using Profibus systems for over five years and says they have integral to its plans to network all of its metropolitan water treatment plants.
Tyco Flow Control Pacific announced in late-2008 that it had become the first Profibus International-accredited competence centre in Australia. It says it will be responsible for the distribution of the technology throughout the country.
