Treatment solution turns industrial fluids into grey water

MICROBIAL Solutions says it has successfully trialled a commercial scale bioreactor which uses its Microcycle treatment to break down toxic industrial fluids, such as coolants and lubricants.

According to the UK-based company, the technology could be used as an alternative to transporting dangerous chemicals to disposal facilities.

The current practices consume too much energy and can produce undesirable by-products, the developer claims.

The Microcycle system uses a selected mix of bacteria to digest the toxins and chemicals in the fluids after they have served their purpose. The process turns the liquid into grey water, which can be safely disposed of into the sewerage system. It also produces neutral gas.

BAE Systems has been running a trial bioreactor at one of its facilities since early 2008.
