Water Corporation Environmental Management System receives ‘five ticks’ of approval

THE WATER Corporation in Western Australia has been recognised for its commitment to the environment, with SAI Global granting it certification to the International Standard for Environmental Management Systems, ISO 14001.

According to the Water Corporation, this initial certification covers its areas with the biggest environmental risks, namely its Water Technologies Division, Customer Services Division and part of its Business Services Division.

The Water Corporation says it can now display the well-recognised ‘Five Ticks’ Environmental Standards Mark in the certified areas. The company hopes to be completely certified by the end of 2009.

According to the Water Corporation, it provides essential services, including sewerage, drinking water and drainage, to around two million people in Western Australia. These services can present unique environmental risks.

The Water Corporation says the Environmental Management System will be beneficial in several areas, including compliance, the management of environmental risks, continual improvement, standardising environmental management and ensuring a robust, world leading system.

According to the Water Corporation, WA is possibly the world’s largest geographic area to be covered by a single Environmental Management System.
