Weight reduction for ‘hot-fill’ PET bottles

SIPA has developed technology to reduce the weight of ‘hot-fill’ PET bottles used in the beverage production industry.

The company says they can reduce the bottle weight by up to 30% depending on the technology chosen and the bottler’s filling process. The bottles can be filled with fluids with temperatures up to 90 degrees Celsius.

The developer claims one of their customers in Vietnam is using a 38mm non-crystalline reinforced lightweight neck finish to produce a 500mL bottle with a weight of 26g.Typical bottles in the Australian market weigh between 32 and 35g.

SIPA recently appointed HBM Plastics and Packaging Technologies as its exclusive partner in Australia and New Zealand.
