Woodside discovers new gas column

WOODSIDE Petroleum claims to have discovered a new gas source near its Pluto project in Western Australia.

According to the oil and gas giant, a gross gas column of about 110m has been found by wireline logs in good quality reservoir sandstone at its Martell-1 exploration well.

The well is around 290km from Karratha and 100km north-west of the Pluto Field. Water depth at the location is 1290m.

The company says it is awaiting the results of pressure tests but plans to drill further in the area later in 2009.
