QLD Government provides over $56m for Mackay Water Recycling Project

THE QUEENSLAND Government says it will provide over $56m of funding for the Mackay Water Recycling Project.

Local Government Minister Desley Boyle says the Mackay Water Recycling Project is the largest regional water reuse scheme of its kind in Queensland.

Ms Boyle says the project protects the Great Barrier Reef from more than 250t of nutrients every year.

Member for Mackay and Minister for Primary Industries and Fisheries Tim Mulherin says the project was a huge boost for the entire region.

“The project recycles around 90% of Mackay’s waste water ensuring the productivity of this precious resource is maximised, irrigating sugar cane crops and supporting the abattoir.”
