CST WASTEWATER Solutions has released the Titan membrane biological reactor (MBR), said to be a robust and low-maintenance system for municipal and industrial water treatment applications.

The Titan MBR incorporates Smith & Loveless wastewater treatment engineering with submerged flat-plate membrane technology to ensure high permeability and flux rates.

CST Wastewater Solutions says the Titan MBR’s membrane is composed of PVDF and non-woven polyester fabric. Vertical membrane surfaces do not touch each other during operation.

According to CST Wastewater Solutions, the membranes are designed to prevent breakage, eliminate clogging problem and produce higher flux rates over time. They have smooth, continuous surfaces to prevent the build up of solids which often result from hollow fibres being bundled by stringy solids such as hair.

Similarly, according to CST Wastewater Solutions, the Titan MBR’s flat-plate membrane design results in less wear and tear than hollow-fibre types and allows them to be easily cleaned. Air scouring prevents fouling and eliminates the need for back-pulsing pumping equipment.

CST Wastewater Solutions says the membranes maintain high permeability and flux rates even at peak-day rates. They stack within a fully submerged module inside the aeration zone. They also use less chemicals and equipment than other designs.

According to CST Wastewater Solutions, gravity drives the flow through the membranes. Clean water discharges into a clearwell, while the blocked solids remain suspended in the aeration zone. Diffusers beneath the module scour the membranes while also providing an air supply to the bacteria.
